Report on Online Workshop For Psychosocial Support During Pandemic Crisis | 15 Jun 2021

The new academic session commenced with an inspirational and interactive workshop on providing “Psychosocial Support During Pandemic Crisis”. It was organised by Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College of Education in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, on 16th June 2021 at 02.00 pm IST, via Google Meet. The workshop was organised to orient the students about the different ways to contribute towards society, particularly in the context of the current pandemic. The resource person for the workshop was an eminent member from Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India – Mrs. Jayashree Jani. The programme coordinator for the webinar were Dr. Frances Vaidya, Asst. Prof. G.S.B’s Smt. Surajba College of Education .

The workshop commenced with great energy and enthusiasm. The event was hosted by Dr. Frances Vaidya, who began with a brief introduction about the workshop and positive encouragement. Followed by a brief welcome address by our I/C Principal Dr. Judy Grace Andrews highlighting the need of “social vaccine” in the current situation. The resource person Mrs. Jayashree Jani was formally welcomed by Dr. Frances Vaidya, reflecting on the inspirational achievements to her credential. The speaker’s extensive contribution for the relief of Covid affected patients and their family members laid the foundation for the workshop.

The speaker commenced the workshop by highlighting the significance of understanding the meaning of the word, “Corona” and the associated emotions. By facilitating interaction and through a video, focus was laid on the importance of comprehending the word in a positive light. The core quality of listening and developing empathy was enlightened to all the future teachers.Through presentation, case study and role plays, the speaker helped in gaining an understanding of the nature of work and execution of the voluntary work under the following teams:- Team 1:- Hospital Management, Team 2:- Non- hospital Management, Team 3:- Family Related Team, Team 4:- Sharing the information of Medical essential, Team 5:- Communicating with the Covid patients.

Students were given the opportunity to voluntarily choose their desired teams, and contribute to the society in such effective ways with guidance and encouragement gained through the workshop, serving as the ultimate need of the hour. It was concluded through predominantly providing a source for productive participation, it helped in lighting the flame of kindness and empathy as highlighted in the experience of some of the participants. Mahek Khan found the workshop as an eye-opener which she claimed helped her realize the meaning of empathy. Along with interesting examples, it facilitated in realizing the need of humanity in current times, for Anushree Kamble. Sayana Shaikh exclaimed on the inspiration she gained in contributing at her own personal level. Thus the workshop laid the foundation for the rising of dawn through joining the hands in the time of current crisis, and providing an upliftment both at an individual level as well as at the institutional level for the college.

The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Frances Vaidya, who enriched and highlighted the spirit of the enthusiasm created by the speaker in the fulfilling and informative session, marking the end of the workshop.
