Schools : Our experimental laboratories
Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan has established a complete chain of English medium schools from pre-primary through to primary and secondary where innovative teaching methods of teaching and learning developed by the teacher training college are tested for their efficacy and suitability.
True to the principles of Gandhiji, the school provide child-centred approach that needs the child to be accepted as an individual and hence unique requiring teaching and learning strategies tailored for his intellectual, social and attitudinal development. Admissions are limited to 30 students per class to make this approach feasible.
The values such as sharing, honesty, discipline respect for other's opinion, secularism, language, lifestyle, literature are developed and nurtured in the students through meaningful programmes such as community prayer and lunches, paper reading followed by discussions, celebration of important seasonal, national and religious festivals. Visit to institutions and places are organized to re-enforce learning.
An array of learning strategies such as self-help, self-study, group study, dramatization, role-play, use of audio-visual devices, visits and guests speakers are suitably adopted by theteachers.
A continuous evaluation of students scholastic performance is supplemented with that of his personality, which include intellectual, social, attitudinal and psy-chomotor skills through appropriately designed observation schedules and are meticulously recorded for each students. This provides a complete picture of his development during his association with the school.
In addition to the curricular studies, students are encouraged to develop their talents and creative potentialities through handicraft, literature, drawing and painting, community work, workshop practice, literary studies and nature studies. Gandhiji's emphasis on
conservation of their efforts is organized in October to bring them to the notice of their parents and friends.
All students of the schools feel as members of a larger community during 'common lunch' everyday at a nominal cost.
Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan considers itself and its schools as organic parts of the community within which they work. Its management seeks co-operation of the community and parents in all decisions that effect them and their wards. It provides access to poor students through freeships and half freeships.
"By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in child and man-body, mind and spirit."
